The family stepped inside the Joan of Arc Historial — a dazzling multimedia immersion that thrilled both children and adults — before ice-skating hand-in-hand at the Christmas market and watching the Rouen Cathedral blaze with a spectacular light show.
Normandy Like Locals
David’s fascination with WWII was honored through a sensitive, story-driven trail: Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Overlord Museum and the American Cemetery, brought alive by a guide who balanced history with empathy. That evening, the family gathered for a candlelit dinner in a 17th-century manor, where a private chef shared Normand recipes and WWII stories, while the boys joined in by plating dessert.
Mont Saint-Michel Magic
No Christmas in Normandy is complete without Mont Saint-Michel. After a private tour of the abbey, the family met a resident who shared what it means to live and work on this tidal wonder. Marseille Hidden Treasures
From the panoramic heights of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the day began with sweeping views over Marseille and a glimpse into the millennial history of France’s oldest city. When the guide learned that Deborah had Jewish roots, she added a meaningful stop at the Grand Synagogue of Marseille, sharing the story of the city’s Jewish community and its place in French history.
Along the way, she also discovered Steve’s passion for architecture and adapted the itinerary to include Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse and its iconic rooftop — a modernist masterpiece rarely featured in standard tours.
Cassis by Land and Sea
Instead of a simple seaside stroll, the couple set off on a one-hour boat ride through the Calanques National Park, where limestone cliffs plunge into turquoise waters. Back on land, they visited a tiny family-run vineyard, tasting whites and rosés known only to locals.
