      Nicknamed "The Man-Eater" by French troops, this strategic peak saw some of the fiercest fighting in Alsace. Explore its moving memorial, restored trenches, and immersive museum, then take in the sweeping views that reveal why this mountain was so hotly contested.

        Deeper into Alsace’s WWI Memory

        Stay overnight in the region and extend your WWI memory tour with a second day exploring the Vosges sectors of Schratzmännele and Barrenkopf, visiting poignant Alsace war cemeteries, and discovering the impressive Mutzig Fort—featuring underground galleries and artillery systems, and offering insight into pre-war military strategy and engineering—for a deeper and more reflective perspective on the conflict.

        Return or extension. Return to Strasbourg, from there take an evening train back to Paris or choose to extend your stay in Alsace.
